ANNUAL FUNDS

 Annual Fund

Part of the Enrichment Programme, the Annual Fund is an appeal made every year to Old Tauntonians and other friends of the School to support immediately deliverable projects benefiting the whole School community.  The Fund is all about taking part and the key to success is the extent of participation, not the amount given.  It is designed to encourage, wherever possible, regular giving in a tax-efficient manner.

2006/7 Annual Development Fund

This fund was launched to support the School’s ambitious Strategic Development Plan, which over the coming years will bring long overdue improvements to our campus and facilities, delivering the high standards expected at a successful leading independent school. [ Download our leaflet, 370k pdf ]

A new astro surface and
shockmat on the Jowett

Cost:  £175,000

Oliver Deasy

“Captaining England U16 and playing for England ‘B’ at 17 are but steps towards my ultimate ambition of representing Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics. Taunton School has been fundamental to my achievements, but we desperately need to be able to play safely on our own astro pitch, the Jowett, which we were unable to use this year, as it is worn out. Please do all you can to help us reach our target.”

The complete refurbishment of
two science laboratories
 Cost:  £100,000

Simon Smith, Head of Science

“The Science Block is one of the School’s most prized assets, and of course also houses the war memorial to our fallen OTs. This project will sensitively renovate and refurbish our existing laboratories, delivering state of the art facilities without the need for a costly rebuild. Such work is long overdue and with 50% of our A Level pupils using the science laboratories, is now an educational priority. Our objective is to completely renovate 2 laboratories per year over the next 5 years. Your support is sincerely appreciated.”

Additional funds for bursaries
and scholarships
 Cost:  £50,000

Adam D’Souza

“I have been fortunate to benefit from a bursary during my 10 years at Taunton School. This has enabled me to take advantage of a whole range of opportunities which otherwise would simply have been unavailable to me. For example, as a member of the Burke I became “World Champion” in the parliamentary debate of the ESU public speaking competition in Canada, I sing with the chapel choir and choral society and play oboe in the orchestra, wind band and swing band; I have qualified as a scuba diver, am a leading Seaman in the Navy section of the CCF and I write for the Orb—a School magazine, as well as being editor of the Tauntonian magazine. In between all this I have managed to secure 9 GCSEs at A*/A grade with one B, have just completed my A levels and am looking forward to taking up a place at University in September. Bursaries and scholarships are undoubtedly life changing opportunities and if you are able to help the Foundation establish an Endowment Fund, this will benefit future pupils for generations to come.”

Parental Fund

Part of the Enrichment Programme, this is an annual fund aimed exclusively at parents, seeking voluntary donations of £25.00 per term via their termly invoices.  Gift Aid is collected on donations, enabled through a Gift Aid declaration which is included in the School’s standard Terms and Conditions.  The fund is generously supported by the majority of parents throughout the School and is delivering real and tangible benefits to pupils, significantly enriching the quality of school life.

All money received goes directly to purchasing a number of “extra” items which improve and bring quality to a number of different areas, benefiting all pupils in all parts of the School.

To give a flavour, these are just some of the items purchased under the scheme in the last year alone:

A Yamaha grand piano,
Music technology equipment
Specialist theatre lighting
A Petrov piano
Rucksacks, tents, sleeping bags
Drama technology equipment
Specialist Centenary Hall lighting
A digital sound projector
A sound system
Classroom and outdoor play equipment and storage facilities (for Pre-Prep)
Donation towards the Chapel sound system (supplemented by OT funding)

This varied and substantial list demonstrates that the initiative has proved to be a big success and we thank all parents for their generous contributions.
