The Case for Support

Taunton School owes its existence to the generosity of past and present Old Tauntonians, parents and other supporters. It has a rich tradition of giving, well exemplified by a wonderful campus, due principally to the benevolence of well-wishers.

In recent years however, it has become obvious that fee income cannot wholly support further developments to the fabric of the School and that other sustainable income streams have to be generated to ensure that Taunton School progresses in the years ahead. We cannot stand still and live off our reputation. Competition is at an historic high.

The Taunton School Foundation is aimed at creating an environment of continuous giving and support, based upon a model long-established in the United States and now being replicated at most universities and leading independent schools in the UK.

When it was established in 2001, the Governors  set the Foundation with the objective of raising £10 million within a decade to fund the School's progressive Development Plan and to create an endowment fund to support bursaries and scholarships. With no capital reserves or endowments, the Foundation must succeed in achieving these objectives.

Taunton School has developed its vision for the future, which is supported by a robust strategic plan. The Governors are confident that with Foundation support, the Headmaster and his management team will succeed in translating the vision into reality.
