Our promise to donors

Since Taunton School was founded in 1847, providing education for children from all backgrounds regardless of financial means has been central to its ethos. The need to provide funds for means-tested bursaries remains a priority, central to the School’s development strategy. It is therefore critical to increase financial resources to achieve the School’s mission. There is also a need to raise funds for capital projects to preserve and enhance the School’s environment to benefit our current students and to ensure a legacy for future generations. In our fundraising practice, we promise our donors and all our stakeholders that:

We are honest and open

  • We are clear and truthful when stating our need for funds
  • We are clear about who we are, what we do and how each gift is used
  • We give a clear explanation about how a gift can be made and how to amend a regular gift
  • We acknowledge promptly, respect the wishes of those who wish to remain anonymous and honour restrictions placed on our donations
  • We are committed to transparency: details about our fundraising activity are displayed on our website and in our Annual Report
  • We are happy to answer any questions about fundraising because we believe that every supporter and potential supporter has the right to know how donation are used

We are accountable and committed to high standards

  • We comply with the law, including health and safety law, environment law and we adhere to the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998
  • We will not share your details with any other charities or third parties and keep records of all donations safe and confidential
  • We will not accept donations where we identify a potential conflict of interest with the donor
  • Our fundraising strategies are in accordance with the Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Fundraising Practice
  • If you have any questions or concerns with anything we do while fundraising you are welcome to contact us by email Nadine.latte@tauntonschool.co.uk or by telephone 01823703159

We are respectful

  • We respect the rights, dignities and privacy of all our stakeholders
  • We will not put pressure on you to make a gift and if you do not want to give or wish to cease giving, we will respect your decision
  • If you tell us that you don’t want us to contact you in a particular way, we will not do so
  • We will listen to and take reasonable donor suggestions on board
  • If we contact you by phone, at the start of the call, we will always check if you’re happy to talk
  • If you no longer wish to receive calls from us, you just need to let us know
