School Development Plan
So that Taunton School remains competitive, it needs constantly to update and renew its facilities.
To this end, it has drawn up a rolling 5 year School Development plan for the next decade and the Foundation will contribute to the funding of many of these projects, the current priorities and other recently completed schemes being detailed below:
Theatre Foyer
Completed Oct. 2005
Cost: £186,000
There was a temporary marquee in place between the Arts Theatre and the Old Library for some years and this has now been replaced by the new Theatre Foyer. This magnificent building is much larger than the old tent, equivalent to approximately two-thirds of the size of the Old Library. Its design incorporates multiple double-doors on the front elevation, in keeping with the School’s traditional frontage, with full width steps enabling use to be made of the area in front of the Old Library when the weather is favourable. Disabled access is included.
The foyer is used frequently for theatrical occasions, for parental and Old Tauntonian functions as well as for a multitude of other school needs.
A naming opportunity exists for the theatre foyer.

Chapel Green Redevelopment

Work has included landscaping of the garden and lawn area, the mounting of high quality perimeter fencing, disabled ramping and access to the Chapel and the Parade ground, drainage and the replacement of the gravel with high quality stone paving.
The Governors have agreed that the Chapel Green area presents a naming opportunity for a supporter of the school and interested parties are asked to contact the Alumni and Foundation Director.

Bursary and Scholarship Endowment Fund
The Governors have asked the Foundation to establish a permanent endowment of £2 million which the School will use to fund scholarships and bursaries. Taunton School is not well endowed and, having no investments, currently relies on school fee income to fund such initiatives.
Scholarships are essential to the School; they enable talented pupils to attend Taunton who would otherwise be unable to do so. They raise standards as well as the profile of the School, with pupils who attain scholarships achieving external recognition and reward and inspiring others to achieve similar standards.
If you or your business is able to donate capital
to help build this important initiative,
please contact the Foundation Director.
Naming opportunities exist to establish specific funds covering these areas:
- academic
- music
- drama
- sport
Enrichment Programme
Aside from the major capital projects outlined above in the School Development Plan, a substantial Enrichment Programme exists, raising funds for smaller projects throughout the School and delivering items not generally covered by school fees. For recent items purchased through donations, please refer to “Annual Funds”.
