Swimming with the OlympiansOver the weekend, Emily Yap competed in the South West Regional Championships at Millfield School. As the flagship event in the South West, it was well attended by a number of Olympic swimmers based in the SW. Her claim to fame was that she swam in the same events as Olympians Lizzie Simmons and Stacey Tadd. Lizzie won her favoured event, the 200 Backstroke, which saw Emily finishing 13th, the fastest ’99 yr swimmer. Emily also achieved seasonal best times in her other events, narrowly missing out getting to finals against much older swimmers. Also competing over the weekend were London 2012 Olympians Antony James, Andrew Willis, Chris Walker-Hebborn and Michael Jamieson, silver medallist at London 2012.
This weekend will see Emily and George Tester represent Taunton Deane SC in the Regional finals of the Arena Swimming League against teams including Millfield, Exeter and Plymouth, who will be fielding their respective Olympians including James Disney-May, Liam Tancock, Ruta Meilutyte and Antony James.
