Posted: 27th November 2017

Taunton School recently became part of the global TED community by hosting and arranging a TEDx event.

Students and staff took their place on the famous ‘red spot’ and delivered thought-provoking and diverse talks to a captivated audience in the school’s theatre, ranging from ‘The social awakening of shareholder value’ to ‘Why it matters how we kill’.

Taunton School, who is the only organisation in the area to have hosted such as event, began preparations nearly one year ago, meticulously adhering to brand requirements. The theme of the event was “The essence of a changing world” and speakers were invited to deliver a 10 minute presentation under the strict TED rules.

Nina Porter, a sixth form student who took on the arduous task of arranging the event and who delivered a talk on ‘Econome – why money can’t buy happiness’ commented that “All the talks were thoroughly enriching and full of passion”.

Students Anna Bray, Tia Hawkins, Sophie Bray and Abi Casson also delivered inspiring talks.

Ed Burnett, Taunton School’s Deputy Head of Academic was particularly impressed with the students: “An amazing experience… my hats off to these youngsters…. I could never have done what they did at their age: they are truly inspiring people”.

The Design and Technology department assisted in creating the legendary TED letters which were proudly displayed on stage.
