FROM THE HEADMASTER
Taunton School is delighted to invite you to its beautiful campus for the 2008 Easter Revision Course. We have a fine reputation for adding value to the grades of students of whatever ability and the Easter Revision Course is an opportunity for all to benefit from the experience and professionalism of its staff.

Set in an area north of Taunton, the School boasts fine grounds, exceptional sporting facilities and easy access to the centre of this south west market town. Communications are easy by rail, road or air. The location and atmosphere lend themselves to purposeful study, but also to the making of new friendships.

The teaching facilities are already of high quality and are improving year on year. Our unceasing commitment to academic performance is reflected in the quality of our facilities, which are developed and improved each year. The high standard of the teaching, which is provided by experienced teachers and examiners and takes place in small groups, is well supported by the happy atmosphere and wide range of extra-curricular experiences on offer.

Taunton School is a coeducational school with comfortable boarding facilities and therefore welcomes students from all over the world whether they are working towards their GCSEs, AS levels or A2s. We believe in your success. Feedback from former students is undoubted proof that we achieve it.

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF STUDIES
The Revision Course offers a full range of GCSE, AS and A2 subjects over a 5 day period. Students can take up to two subjects on a residential or non-residential basis. The central aim of the Course is to give students an opportunity to develop their confidence, motivation and examination performance in a highly supportive, friendly and fun environment.

Each subject is taught in small groups (maximum ten but often smaller) and tutors are experienced and in many cases are or have been examiners. Tutors concentrate on core features and areas of difficulty in each subject. Particular attention is paid to conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, recall ability and examination technique. Because groups are small, progress is monitored very much on an individual basis. Each syllabus is revised in depth and the teaching fully integrated with examination practice.

Tuition is supplemented with a range of optional extra-curricular activities to ensure a highly enjoyable and productive week.
Tutors concentrate on problem areas high-lighted by each student before the Course and at the end of the Course parents are sent a tutor report outlining progress and areas that need consolidating.

EVENING SEMINAR ON STUDY SKILLS
Examination success is very much dependent on the way in which students work and the strategies that they use to revise. We therefore offer to both residential and non-residential students
an optional two hour evening seminar which focuses on topics such as time management, planning, revision technique and learning strategies.

RECREATION
Students have access to the large on-site 6th Form Centre where they can relax, socialise and enjoy refreshments between tuition sessions.
Staff are also available for informal discussions.
After the revision session in the afternoon students are able to take part in optional extra-curricular activities on offer.
These include use of the modern 25m indoor swimming pool, fully-equipped gym, tennis, squash, badminton and supervised sports such as football, basketball and rounders.
Students also have access to ICT suites, study rooms and library.

The school prides itself on its high standards of accommodation and care.
Residential students are allocated a study bedroom in one of the separate boys’ and girls’ boarding houses on site.
Each boarding house is supervised by a member of staff who is responsible for the pastoral care of his/her students. This member of staff ensures that each student has settled in, has met other students and feels happy and relaxed.
The bedrooms are comfortable, buildings secure and there is telephone and e-mail access.
