Third Form
(Year 9) Pupils aged 13 - 14
All pupils study the ‘core’ subjects:

Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, Geography, History, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Maths, Music, Personal Social and Health Education, Physical Education, Physics and Religious Education.

Each pupil then chooses one subject from each of the following blocks:

Option Language French or German or Spanish.
Option 1  Business Studies or Design and Technology or Drama or French or Latin.
Option 2  Business Studies or Classical Civilisation or Design and Technology or Drama or Spanish.



GCSE
(Years 10 & 11)
Core Exam Subjects which everyone takes:
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, English Literature, One Modern Foreign Language  (from French, German, Spanish), Mathematics, Religious Education (Short Course)   (Can be converted to a full GCSE in the 5th Form)

Science will be taught as
(i) Science + Additional Science leading to Two GCSE’s
OR
(ii) Biology, Physics, Chemistry leading to Three GCSE’s
 If option (i) is taken pupils will choose 3 further option subjects from the list below leading to a total of 9 1⁄2 GCSE’s.
If option (ii) is taken pupils may choose two or three option subjects from the list below leading to 9 ½  or 10 ½ GCSE’s.

Modern Foreign Languages
All pupils must choose at least one Modern Foreign Language from French, German, Spanish.

Humanities and Arts
Whilst Humanities and Arts subjects are not compulsory, Taunton School recommends very strongly that all pupils choose at least one Humanities subject (Geography or History) and at least one Creative Arts subject (Art, Design and Technology, Drama or Music).

International Baccalaureate
(Years 12 & 13)
Those on the IB Diploma course will study three subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. In addition they will write an Extended Essay (EE) on a subject of their choice, complete a course in the Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and participate in the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) programme. A'Levels
(Years 12 & 13)

Students entering the Sixth Form to study AS and A2 subjects are required to have a minimum of five GCSE grades A* to C. It is recommended that a student should have a grade 'B' at GCSE in any subject they wish to study at AS level although every case will be looked at individually.

It is recommended that students achieve at least a grade 'C' at AS Level in any subject that they wish to carry on to A2 level.
Any student who does not pass the AS exams in a specific subject at the end of the Lower 6th will not, unless there are exceptional circumstances, be allowed to continue with that subject to A2.
It should be noted that certain subjects cannot be studied at AS level unless they have been studied previously.

Each Student selects one subject from each block below.
