Teaching Music as a subject
Music is noted for getting large numbers
of pupils involved at whatever level of ability
- from the beginner to the very advanced.
Music teaching is by individual lessons from experienced and specialist teachers.
There is a thriving tradition of musical shows - from Fiddler on the roof to Oliver and Grease.
The new Music Technology Room is fully operational with all the latest equipment.
Many pupils take the exams of the Associated Board. Our success rate in these is above average: in the last year there have been 9 distinctions and 6 merits at all grades, including significant success at grade 8 singing, oboe and violin.
We have a 100% record of success at GCSE and A level exams over the last 10 years, the great majority with 'A' grades.
Many of our pupils play in youth orchestras - the local Deane Youth Orchestra, the Somerset County Orchestra, and the County Youth Band, and regularly audition for the National Youth Orchestra.
