Year 10 student Georgia Williams accomplished an outstanding one mile open water sea swim around the iconic Castles of Cornwall at the weekend.
Dubbed the “Castle 2 Castle”, this route sees participants swim through choppy open water from Pendennis Castle in Falmouth to St Mawes Castle on the Roseland Peninsula and raising much needed funds for the RNLI.
Georgia who previously attended The Castle School and lives in Taunton, was not only the youngest swimmer at just 14 years old, but incredibly was the 4th female, 2nd female in the under 18 age group, and 18th overall out of a field of 250. She managed the one mile course in just under 30 minutes despite the hostile conditions, and raised £150 for the RNLI.
The next big challenge she faces is with the Taunton School team taking part in the inaugural Henley Classic Schools’ Open Water Swimming Cup on 25th June, where she will face Radley College and Churcher’s College. (See news story here.)
She says “I really enjoyed the swim, although I think I could have got a better time! I’m training hard at the moment as I have the Henley Swim coming up in a couple of weeks and it would be great to do well there”.
Georgia spends much of her time training with Taunton School Long Distance Swimming Club and also with Paul Shergold of the Triathlon Training Team and Somerset RC Tri.
