Have you heard of James Freeman Clarke?

Regardless of opinion regarding the result of the latest general election, some commentators have interestingly noted that the outcome may not be altogether bad news for independent schools. Considering, on the one hand, that Mrs May might not be in as forceful a position as she was about grammar school developments, and on the other, Mr Corbin has been denied his wish to apply a VAT charge to fees in our sector.

Have you heard of James Freeman Clarke? A renowned theologian and author, I believe that from him we can learn a meaningful message, especially in this political context. As he so eloquently explained, “A politician thinks of the next election. A statesman of the next generation.” As school teachers, we take great pleasure in taking responsibility for the next generation.

With this in mind, I take great delight in congratulating our Year 8 pupils on their outstanding performances of World’s Apart earlier in the week; a play written and directed expertly by our very own Mr Manners. The children were full of character and enthusiasm and we, as the audience, took equal pleasure in their efforts. Well done!
We now look forward to a fun-filled week of activity as our Sports Day kicks off next week.
