Gold at School Games crowns successful summer for Georgia

Posted: 25th September 2017

Taunton School pupil and volleyball player Georgia McGovern has had an incredibly successful summer captaining the England team to a Gold medal at the School Games.

Year 11 pupil Georgia, from Henlade near Taunton, started her summer with a selection to play for a USA invitational team in an international under 17 tournament in Pula, Croatia, after victory at two beach volleyball tournaments. The 15 year old Taunton School student joined other girls from Southern California, Chicago, and Pittsburgh playing against the Czech, Slovakian, and Croatian under 17 National teams as well as representative teams from the US and Italy, before being knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Georgia then captained the England Women Cadets in defending their title and winning gold at the School Games held at Loughborough University. Georgia will be representing England under 17s and 19s in two European competitions next month.

Based on her strong Croatian performances Georgia has been asked to join the England Senior Women’s under 22 volleyball training squad.
