Four members of staff and one student took place in the Taunton 10k on Sunday, three of whom were placed top in their category.
Year 11 pupil Alex Male from Milverton, who is just 15 years old, got a staggering time of 36.05 and was sixth overall and first in the U17 category.
Alex, who had a busy summer of triathlons and aquathlons, is familiar with competition settings, but has never actually entered a 10k race before this one. He said “I found first part of the course quite comfortable, but was surprised how difficult the last 3k felt. I was aiming for a good time and I’m really pleased with the result. It was good to see so many Taunton School staff taking part too.”
Martin Bluemel, IB Coordinator at Taunton School got an impressive time of 41.49 and was placed first in the M55 group.
Martin said: “I was delighted to win my age category prize and it was great to see so many people there to support us. I am especially grateful to Keith Paul and Sharron Kington, coaches at Taunton Athletic Club, who have helped me keep running fast even at my age.”
Experienced triathlete Nikki Miller, Chief Operations Officer at Taunton School got the top spot in the F50 category with her time of 43.39.
Nikki commented: “The atmosphere was fantastic both out on the course and at the event centre and it was lovely to see so many colleagues from Taunton School enjoying the day. Huge congratulations to Alex, who was incredibly quick. I’m looking forward to the Taunton Triathlon next May which will be hosted at Taunton School.”
Tom Brodie, Head of Business Studies and Economics also took part and finished with a very respectable time of 46.10. Not too far behind was Damian Henderson, Deputy Head of Academic at Taunton School who accomplished 55.47.
