Taunton School Main Building at Dusk

A successful summer of cricket

Posted: 2nd September 2018

During the summer Taunton School had 28 boys and girls performing in county and district cricket representing three different counties as well as Somerset. These players helped their respective counties reach semi-finals and finals in national competition.

In the week following school breaking up two teams, 1st XI and U15s, travelled to Eastbourne to play in a three day cricket festival vs the hosts Eastbourne College, Framlingham and Dulwich. This was the first year of U15s playing after it was proposed by Taunton School. There was a poor first day for both teams after a long journey but on day 2 and 3 there were wins for the 1st XI and narrow losses for the 15s. The highlights for the 15s were Ben Chaffey’s 70 not out, Max Fletcher and Henry Weatherill both passing 40s vs Eastbourne College and Joleigh Roberts top scoring vs Framlingham. Thomas Houghton-King and Teddy Woolstencroft were leading wicket takers in what were tough bowling conditions.

The 1st XI put together two of their best all round performances of the year vs Framlingham and Dulwich. In these victories Ed Eminson scored 99, Harry Ledger 73 and Tom Walsh bowled his best spell taking 5 for 56. However the player of the festival was Oscar Samuel who accumulated 149 in 3 innings and took a hat-trick vs Dulwich.

Director of Cricket Pete Sanderson said: “Overall, the three days were very successful and hopefully the students enjoyed themselves as much as the staff!”
