Swedish International Hockey Team visits School for Skol Cup

Posted: 7th April 2019

Taunton School recently hosted the 20th Biennial Hockey Tournament, in which teams from all over the country competed for the ‘Skol Cup’, and this year included Sweden’s International team.

Earlier this year Taunton School’s Director of Hockey, Elliot Foweraker, teamed-up with the Swedish U21 team as an assistant coach and video analyst through European Hockey. Having met Head Coach Chris Bemert through the European Top Coaches Programme, Elliot helped the team to finish just shy of a medal in the Championships. Chris Bemert commented: “We were very grateful to Elliot’s help during the tournament and we are looking forward to having him coaching with us again in the future. We were excited to travel to Taunton School … the facilities are brilliant we were grateful to be invited to this exciting tournament.”

Schools competing for the Skol cup included King’s Gloucester, King’s Macclesfield, Rossal School and Monkton Combe. Taunton, who were the current holders of the Skol Cup after winning the tournament two years ago missed out to eventual winners King’s Gloucester.

Elliott Foweraker said “After hosting the tournament for the first time two years ago, it is certainly a highlight to the boys’ hockey calendar. It gives a great opportunity for our students to get some first team exposure. It’s a highly competitive tournament that gives us chance to play schools from all over the country. I am grateful to Chris Bemert and the Swedish team for making such efforts to be with us.”
