A ‘Moment in Time’ for School’s new Dining Room

Posted: 10th December 2019

Taunton School Time Capsule (3)

Taunton School students came together last week to plant a time capsule into the foundations of the new dining room redevelopment.

Contributions were made from staff and students in every part of the school from the Nursery to the Sixth Form. Contents included school photos, newsletters, a USB stick loaded with interesting documents, a school hat and tie, children’s drawings and a Christmas card.

The capsule was engraved with wording for future generations to discover: “The contents in this time capsule represent current life at Taunton School in 2019. Contributions have been made by students and staff from our Pre-Prep, Prep, Senior and International Schools”.

Work on Taunton School’s state-of-the-art dining hall commenced in July 2019 with completion expected in spring 2020. The light and spacious facility will provide a welcoming environment for pupils to enjoy their meals and will act as a central hub for dining in the heart of the historic school. Sustainable materials will be used together with the latest technology in lighting, acoustic materials and audio visual equipment, while maintaining and improving the integrity of the Grade II listed main school.

The facility will also be available for general public hire during the school holidays, with income being reinvested to help pay for the education of pupils as part of the Taunton School’s Assisted Places scheme.
