St David’s Day at Weirfield

Posted: 6th March 2020

Weirfield Boarding 3

As a boarding house made up of girls from all over the world we endeavour to celebrate as many national events as possible throughout the year. We have already celebrated Chinese Spring Festival and Mardi Gras but last Sunday celebrated a national day a bit closer to home, St David’s Day.
St David is the patron saint of Wales and so we decided to have a go at making ‘Welsh Cakes’ which aren’t really cakes at all! Made from flour, sugar, butter and sultanas, they are cooked on a griddle in a similar way to scones and crumpets.

The girls enjoyed making them almost as much as eating them!
