First-time Taunton Young International debaters take third at Inter-School Debating Challenge

Posted: 21st March 2022

A team of four international students from Taunton School International Middle School, including three who had never entered the competition before, took part in the Taunton School Inter-house debating competition.

The students’ performances were even more impressive given the fact that they were presenting in their second language.

Year 10 student Kerem read clearly and with good pronunciation in the interpretive reading round, and Chloe in Year 9 spoke passionately about why children should be leaders in world politics.

In the difficult category, impromptu speaking, Edgar in Year 9 amused the audience with his playful thoughts on the topic of ‘clothes in the future’.

In the main debate, Chloe and Louise in Year 9 had the difficult task of opposing the motion ‘This House believes that people should be capped at six international flights per annum.’

They argued well, proved their point, and won the debate placing the team third overall.
