A Captivating Look at Lebanon’s History

Keeling Lecture with Rob Gallimore

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for this term’s Henry Keeling Memorial Lecture with Rob Gallimore. These lectures were created to raise the academic aspirations of our students, broaden their experiences and equip them with the knowledge and arguments needed to engage with current debates. Rob achieved exactly that, guiding us through the history of Lebanon, the remarkable personal journey of Tom Young, and the stories and influences behind ten of Tom’s paintings.

While we had hoped artist Tom Young would be able to join us in person, he was unable to travel to the UK due to the current conflict in Lebanon. We were extremely fortunate that our own distinguished historian, author, and former British Army Officer, Rob Gallimore, stepped in to provide the lecture.

Drawing on Tom Young’s remarkable paintings, Rob guided the audience through the rich and complex history of Lebanon. His talk offered a blend of historical insight, personal perspective, and visual storytelling, and those in attendance agreed he was a brilliant and knowledgeable guide.

We are grateful to Rob for delivering such a memorable lecture and to everyone who came along to support the event. We look forward to welcoming you to future Henry Keeling Memorial Lectures.
