Entry to our Nursery

Admission to Taunton School Nursery is available for children aged between 6 months and 4 years.

We have 4 Nursery classes grouped by age and the children move up to the next room each academic year. From Nursery the next step is a seamless transition into the Reception Class of our Pre-Prep School.

Early Years Entitlement

We have agreed to adopt and work in Partnership with the Somerset Code of Practice for Early Years.

The county of Somerset offers a maximum of 570 hours per year of Early Years Entitlement (EYE) for eligible families of children aged 9months to 5 years. There are a further 570 hours available for qualifying families.

There is no minimum entitlement per day but the maximum hours per week that may be claimed is 15 or, for those families qualifying for the additional entitlement, the maximum amount of hours which can be claimed each week is 30.

Early Years Entitlement is free at the point of delivery and covers the delivery of the Early Years curriculum.
It is important to note that this funding does not cover meals and snacks or the use of our purpose-built facilities, swimming teachers, specialist music staff, language teachers, dance lessons, PE lessons and other specialist activities. These additional facilities, lessons and activities form part of our Taunton School Nursery Exceptional package which is subject to additional voluntary charges to access.

Somerset County Council provides lots of information and guidance to help you make an informed choice. More information is available online on www.somersetchoices.org.uk or by calling 0300 1232224.

Nursery Admissions Process

Here’s our easy step by step guide to the Nursery admissions process.

  • 1
    Enquiry

Please fill out the enquiry form to express your interest, or telephone 01823 703339 with your child’s name and date of birth/due date.

  • 2
    Visit us

Following your enquiry, we invite you for a bespoke visit of Taunton School Nursery so you can experience our wonderful setting for yourself.

We also run Nursery & Pre-Prep Information Events, which you can easily book online.

  • 3
    Registration

To apply for a place at Nursery, you need to complete the registration form, pay a non-refundable registration fee of £100 and provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport.

We encourage you to visit the nursery prior to registering, but if this is not possible, we can answer any questions over the phone or email.

Any child may be registered from birth, and we are happy to accept registration forms prior to the birth of your child, if you are comfortable with this.

Nursery places are subject to availability. If a place is not available, parents will be given the opportunity to join the waiting list and will not be charged a registration fee. When a place becomes available within the relevant Nursery Room, the parents of the child at the top of the waiting list will be contacted and offered a place. The registration fee will then need to be paid.

Offers are made on a first come first served basis, although siblings of current Taunton School pupils are given priority.

    Acceptance

We will send an offer letter to you, specifying the sessions that are booked and the start date. If you wish to accept the place, you will need to complete and sign the Acceptance Forms and return them to Nursery Admissions with the £750 acceptance deposit*. You will be requested to respond within a specified time if you wish to accept the offer made, otherwise the offer will lapse.

Additional sessions may be requested once your child has joined the Nursery, space permitting. Should you wish to decrease your days or withdraw your child from Nursery, we ask for one term’s notice in writing, which must be acknowledged by Nursery Admissions.

*The Acceptance Deposit is refundable for children who progress through to the Preparatory School Year 3.

    Induction

As your start date approaches, we will invite you to attend an induction meeting with your child’s new Nursery Room Leader. We will also send you an information booklet (‘All About Me’) for you to complete and bring with you to this meeting. This book asks for information about your family and your child. All this information will help us to get to know you and your child quickly and helps with the settling-in process.

The induction meeting is a time to ask more questions (no matter how small!), review your information booklet together and discuss how you may like to manage the initial settling-in process of your child. Some children and parents prefer a short, quick drop-off, whilst others need a gradual settling-in programme.

If you are joining the Nursery in September, we also have a new pupils and parents tea party in our grounds the day before Autumn Term commences. There is always a lovely atmosphere at the tea party. It gives your family and your child an opportunity to meet our Nursery team, explore the site and familiarise the children with new environments.
