Matthew started at Taunton School in September 2022, having previously been Director of Music at Millfield School, which he joined in 2016. Before Millfield, Matthew was at Sevenoaks School in Kent, where he was Assistant Director of Music and Resident Tutor in a 13-18 boys’ boarding house. He began his teaching career at St Olave’s Grammar School in Orpington, Kent, where he was also a Head of Year.
As a student, Matthew read Music at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, where he was appointed as Organ Scholar. He enjoyed a gap year as a Musician in Residence at Christ’s College, New Zealand, before completing his PGCE at Durham University. He is currently in his final year of an MA in Educational Leadership at UCL’s Institute of Education, focusing on staff wellbeing, and has been actively contributing to Harvard University’s Human Flourishing Programme for the past two years, working with the Educational Futures group. Also, a keen sportsman, Matthew is committed to ensuring students maintain a broad range of interests, central to his belief that a genuinely holistic education best prepares young people for success in life.
Matthew’s wife, Emily, is Head of Boarding at Taunton School and they have a son, Sebby, aged 2, who is at Taunton School’s Nursery.
