1 Year GCSE/Pre-IB Programme

Ages 15 – 16 (Year 11)

2785 Q_TS 177

The one-year GCSE/Pre-IB, for ages 15 and 16, gives students the ability to gain the pass grades they need to apply for A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate, BTECs or Foundation Programmes in just one year, rather than the standard two years.

Taunton School International (TSI) has places for up to 70 students on the one-year GCSE programme. With small class sizes (averaging 8 students per class), a roster of specialist teachers and individual tutor support our students have the very best opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Students usually take 6 or 7 GCSEs in one year, these being English (first or second language), Mathematics, Own Language (where the GCSE is available) and up to three additional subjects during the school day.

Students can also opt into extra lessons after school, which require additional commitment and private study. Core subjects include English (first or second language), Mathematics, and Own Language (If the GCSE exists).

Optional subjects are: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, Psychology, Business Studies, Economics, Computer Science, Design Technology, Art, Media Studies, Music*, French*, German*, Spanish*, Latin*.

Subjects marked with an asterisk (*) are taught outside of the standard timetable and require a significant amount of additional private study. Note that availability of these subjects is determined by sufficient student uptake.

Small class sizes

Each GCSE subject is studied for 5 hours per week, leading to terminal exams in May/June.

All our students receive a huge amount of individual support to enable them to maximise their academic potential. With small class sizes, regular input from tutors, frequent assessment and reporting, access to extensive resources via our virtual learning platform and regular subject clinics, students have the very best opportunities to succeed on this intensive academic programme of study.

We are very proud of our students and the results they achieve in just 10 months of study. For further information on our GCSE results.

GCSE Results

We are extremely proud of all our one-year GCSE students who have achieved outstanding success again this year. With an overall pass rate of 88.3% (national average = 68%) and an amazing A*-A/9-7 pass rate of 43% (national average = 22%), it is clear that all that hard work and endeavour has paid off.

Many congratulations to everyone involved and we wish them all the very best as they move on to A Levels, the IB, BTECs or our Foundation Programme at the Senior School or International School.
