Overview of Summer School 2017
Another fantastic Summer School at Taunton School
As we move quickly into the busy Autumn term, it seems a good time to reflect on the recent success of our International Summer school.
This year we welcomed 27 nationalities onto our junior and senior academic courses, which ran over the nine weeks of the summer holidays. We are proud that the summer school is organised 'in house' and that the majority of our teachers come from different parts of our vibrant school community. The junior students (aged 7-12) enjoyed their new location in Thone House in the prep school whilst the senior students (13 – 17) were based on the modern campus at Taunton School International. Over the three summer school courses, students combined a variety of subject classes with academic English lessons giving them a real taste of a British boarding school education and experience of living in a boarding house. However, summer school wouldn't be the same without the wealth of co-curricular trips and excursions that enrich their stay in the UK. Activities and sports such as paintballing, airhop, archery, capoeira, African drumming, fencing, tag rugby, swimming, surfing, tennis, football golf, bloc climbing, clip and climb were some of the highlights as well as visits to locations of cultural interest such as Stonehenge, the Eden Project and Windsor Castle to name but a few. What is really wonderful to see is many of these international students moving on to Taunton School either in the prep school, TSIMS, TSI or TS.
Despite the frequent rain this summer, one of the most memorable comments made by a student was that 'Even though the weather isn't so great, my mood couldn't be better. I have really enjoyed staying here.'
Although the Summer School has only just ended, we have already started planning for next year, with 3 new courses being offered. For the juniors, we will be running two-week Multi-Sports courses and for the seniors, we have put together a really exciting two week STE programme. We are also providing ten-day pre-sessional courses prior to the start of term for GCSE, A Level and IB students.
By enhancing our offering on our summer schools, we aim to further strengthen our position within this highly competitive market and realise our global outlook by preparing international students for life in the twenty-first century.
