Salary: £7.50 an hour

Contract: Permanent

We are now seeking to appoint a Swim Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in our new Swim School. It is a new role and therefore the current available hours may increase as the Swim School develops and expands.

Overall Purpose

The role involves helping supporting a qualified Swim Teacher in the water, who is teaching children of all ages and abilities to develop swimming skills, improve technique and increase water confidence. Teaching will normally be within a group setting for the swim school.

This will be achieved by the following duties and responsibilities:                         

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Identifying participants’ abilities and encouraging them to reach their full potential;

  • Acting as a positive role model;

  • Creating a fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children to participate in swimming;

  • Supporting the Swim Teacher with updating, managing and completing the required registers;

  • Work alongside the Sports Club Manager, other Swimming Teachers/Coaches, Lifeguards etc. to ensure that participants are able to swim in a safe environment;

  • To attend regular meetings/training with the Sports Club Manager as and when necessary.

Terms and Conditions

Hours: The teaching hours available are daytime, evenings and weekends during term time, with the chance to accrue overtime hours during non-term time.

Holiday: Holiday is to be taken during school holiday periods (when the weekly lessons do not run).

Pension: Automatic enrolment in the School Pension Scheme should you meet the eligibility criteria

Person Specification     

The successful candidate should be an excellent communicator and have the ability to inspire confidence and motivate swimmers. An enthusiasm for producing a high quality service is essential.

  • Desirable qualifications Current NPLQ or Swim Teachers Lifesaving Qualification (or equivalent)

  • Desirable qualification ASA/UKCC Level 1 or STA equivalent

  • There will be personal performance enhancement training (to continually develop teaching skills and core knowledge of teaching and swimming) offered on an on-going termly basis.
