TSIMS Glow In The ParkFriday, November 16, 2018
The half term got underway on Monday with a Geography trip to Nettlecombe led by Mrs Shearman our Geography teacher and Housemistress. Students headed over to Porlock where they examined the coastline and movement of material. They also had some fun rock pooling with Xavier proving to be an excellent crabber! The group also took some measurements on the beach of material size and shape to assess erosion and took part in some relaxing beach Tai Chi.
On Tuesday, a group of students from The Grange and Foxcombe set off for WestPoint Arena in Exeter, to take part in the Glow in the Park 5k run. After being supplied with a variety of neon items by Mrs House, including glow sticks, face paint and glasses to ensure they were the brightest ones in the crowd, the group tackled a series of obstacles including foam waterfalls and being sprayed with luminous paint, as they made their way around the course. At the end of the run the group reappeared covered in foam. The students from The Grange jumped at the opportunity to swim in the mounds of bubbles they had found at various points on the course. After a quick change the students hopped back into the cosy bus with medals showcasing their efforts!
On Sunday, the whole school made the short drive over to the Senior School, where an Armistice service was held by the chaplain Mrs Winter. The students participated in two minutes of silence and watched as wreaths were laid, marking 100 years since the end of the First World War and remembering those who have been killed or wounded in conflict. Upon returning to school, the students worked hard to pack shoeboxes for Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child. We were very impressed by the thoughtfulness that the students had shown to purchase items for those less fortunate than themselves. A group of six students also headed out on a trip to Hollywood Bowl where they enjoyed spending their pennies and trying to win tickets, to exchange for prizes in the arcade. This was followed by two games of bowling, with most of the boys managing to successfully avoid the gutter!
