Make me a King!

Posted: 1st December 2016

In January 1066, the English king, Edward the Confessor, died – leaving no heir but four possible contenders…Harold Godwinson, Edgar the Atheling, Harald Hardrada and William Duke of Normandy. Year 7 were given the task of working in groups to research one of these claimants and then devising a campaign that would put their candidate on the throne.

They had to write a speech, design posters and come up with badges and songs to help their cause. This gave them the opportunity to work both collaboratively and independently, and to demonstrate real team skills – all part of the PSB. When the finished speeches were delivered, all the spectators had to take notes on the relative strengths and weaknesses of each candidate.

I have to say that the campaigns were fought fairly and the speeches were engaging, detailed and carefully thought out – well done to all!
