Georgia McGovern plays Volleyball for England

Posted: 2nd November 2016

TS pupil Georgia McGovern represented England at Volleyball during half term.

The young athlete, who is in Year 10, played for England in the U17 NEVZA (Northern European Volleyball Zonal Association) Tournament in Denmark and the U19 NEVZA Tournament in Kettering and was the youngest player in the under 19 tournament. She was selected to play for England after being spotted playing at club and regional level.

Georgia, from Norton Fitzwarren, got to play against national teams from Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Norway and the Faroe Islands. She got into Volleyball whilst living in California, where LA was home for 8 years, and has been playing since she was 10.

She has said: “I would like to have a professional volleyball career and I would like to play in the Olympics. Playing for England was scary but exciting. You had to act really professional. There are so many different aspects to Volleyball. It is mental and physical, it is also complicated and there is a lot of team work involved and I like team sports. Everyone in California plays volleyball, it is the biggest girls sport there.”
