Taunton Prep School perform at Musgrove Flower Show

Posted: 25th May 2017

On Thursday afternoon the Music Department was invited to take the Cantabile Choir (Year 7 and 8 Gifted and Talented singers) to the Musgrove Park Hospital to sing for a splendid summery community event. This was the Musgrove Flower Show, taking place in a picturesque courtyard at the hospital.

What a way to celebrate the end of exams for these exceptionally gifted, talented, able, and committed musicians! Once again, Cantabile Choir represented the school proudly by singing and entertaining a large number of hospital patients and staff. There was not just angelic and lively choral music on offer, but also a variety of solo performances from our leading musicians and scholars in both Years 7 and 8.

George Baker impressed the audience playing the piano. Edward Dancey performed the technically demanding and devilish “Czardas” dance on his violin, Rowan Keyte, although injured, performed ‘Hit the Road Jack’ on his saxophone, Matilda Clarke, Esme Hallworth, Leonie Biney, Kate Blackmore-Greasley, and Annabelle Mellenchip sang solo pieces bravely and fantastically.

The patients who attended commented on how well behaved, polite and mature the children were. They seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed the performances in the glorious sunshine.
Well done to all singers and instrumentalists who participated. These children work tirelessly both within school and out in the community towards high-level public performances, representing the school very admirably.
