Pre-Prep Pastoral and Wellbeing

At the heart of all that we do at Taunton Pre-Prep School is the firm understanding that we are providing the foundations for each of the children to start the beginning of their academic journey through school. Children only flourish, dream and achieve when they feel safe, loved, respected, encouraged and cared for.

We ensure that our culture nurtures each child individually. We work closely with the family to ensure that we as professionals understand the background and this ultimately enables us to build strong and meaningful bonds with the children. These relationships endeavour to inspire, nurture and challenge the children whilst they are in our care. We hope that by giving the children these firm foundations and these strong roots, the children will then go on to take any opportunities that they are given and ultimately fly in whatever they excel at.

Children at TPPS form close bonds with their fellow classmates, class teachers and teaching and learning assistants. Class teachers monitor the progress, development and wellbeing of every child in their care so that each individual feels they can discuss any issues they might have. If the class teacher feels that there is also the need for further support in the classroom, this can be found through access to the school’s Educational Progress department.

Underpinning all that we do with the children is strong pastoral care and our commitment to the children’s safety and wellbeing. This forms the foundation of support provided by a safeguarding team across the whole school who follow clear procedures. This team is also assisted by an extensive, knowledgeable and proactive Medical Centre, with a team of professionals supporting both the children and the staff on-site.

A school for pupils of all faiths and none

An understanding of spirituality and the major religions of the world is a key part of our pupils’ personal development. The school is an open community, whose ethos, whilst founded upon Christian principles and ideals, welcomes children from all faiths and traditions and those from none.

Our Chapel is a place of worship and peace, led with energy and vibrancy by our Chaplain. Christian values permeate all that we do and the Chapel is a focal point in School life. It is here that the whole school meets and reflects together. These principles and ideals permeate all aspects of school life. We promote moral values and a sense of spirituality that we hope will stay with pupils forever.

Our full-time Chaplain, The Reverend Eliza Getman ( “Rev” ) is responsible for overseeing and leading services throughout the School. The services are relevant to all faiths and beliefs and are both thought provoking and informing. She receives plenty of support from colleagues and pupils are encouraged to contribute to and participate in services.
The Rev is also fully involved in the pastoral care of the community and is available for pupils of all ages and staff to talk to.

In the Pre-Prep, all children attend assembly and Chapel every week.
