  • What types of boarding are available for Prep students?

    We offer full, weekly and flexible boarding at Thone House.

  • What are the benefits of Flexi Boarding?

    Flexi Boarding allows children to experience boarding for a short period of time to see if it’s right for them. Plus, parents can use the facility to ensure their child is cared for if they need to go away for a short period of time.

  • What facilities does Thone House provide?

    Spacious dormitories, lounges and recreational areas, plus a dedicated ICT suite with controlled internet access and study areas for supervised prep.

  • Who looks after my child whilst boarding at Thone House?

    House parents, Katherine and Christian Wells, various house staff and house tutors provide excellent pastoral care and educational support to ensure the wellbeing and happiness of our boarders.

    In addition, there is a Health Centre is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during term time, to give treatment and look after sick pupils if necessary.

  • What if my child falls ill?

    As a boarder, your child will be registered with Dr Tim Howes or Dr Hilda Gormley who work at the nearby French Weir Health Centre and visit the school four times a week and run routine surgeries. At night and weekends a doctor, working in the out of hours service, is on duty and pupils who need to see a doctor can do so at any time. During School holidays pupils can see a doctor anywhere in the UK.

    We also have a School Health Centre which is an up to date facility ideally situated in the centre of the School Campus. There is a lounge, two 5 bedded rooms, a small kitchen, a treatment room, a doctors consulting room, a counselling room, a physiotherapy treatment room and a nurses duty room. There is a registered nurse on duty from 0800 until 1900, Monday to Saturday. At all other times, there is a matron on duty always on hand to assess any medical concerns your child may have and take the appropriate action if required.

     

     

  • Will I be able to speak to my child regularly?

    Yes, we fully encourage our boarders to maintain regular contact with their family and friends. Plus, our house parents and house staff will be in regular contact with you to keep you updated, or alternatively you can give us a call at any time.

  • What if my child is lonely or homesick?

    It’s inevitable that children will miss home from time to time, but there is always somebody available for your child to talk to. Whether it’s their house parents, Matron, the house staff or their house tutors, your child will receive excellent pastoral care as their happiness and wellbeing is of paramount importance to us.

    We understand that both you and your child may be apprehensive about boarding, which is why we offer Flexi Boarding as an option.

  • Can my child come home at weekends?

    Of course. Plus, there are plenty of opportunities throughout the year for you to come and see your child participate in musical and drama productions, as well as sports fixtures.

  • Will my child’s food preferences and dietary requirements be taken care of?

    Yes, our highly acclaimed food hall provides a broad range of meal options to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. For a in-depth look at food at Taunton School, read our Cream of the Crop blog post. 

  • Is homework/prep supervised?

    Yes, there are supervised prep sessions to ensure homework is completed where staff are on hand to advise and guide children when necessary.

  • What evening and weekend activities are available to Thone House boarders?

    We provide fun, structured activities in the evenings and at weekends to ensure a balanced and rewarding time as a boarder. Evening entertainment and activities range from crafts, swimming, climbing, knitting, film clubs and cookery, to relaxing in front of the TV, reading books/Kindles and playing on games consoles. At the weekends children can enjoy down time as well as the many facilities on offer at both Taunton Prep and Taunton School plus a trip to local attractions on Sundays.
