Welcome from
Nursery School Head

At Taunton School Nursery, we are renowned for our excellence in Early Years Education for those aged 0-4 years.

Like you, we want the very best for your child. I feel truly fortunate to lead a nursery where every pupil can feel secure and happy, learning and thriving in an environment which is filled with adventure, exploration and discovery. The warmth of our community and the priority placed on both wellbeing and everyone achieving their potential makes this a special place to learn and grow. We value every child as an individual and look forward to nurturing them through an outstanding Early Years Education.

'Be kind. Be keen.'

Our leading Nursery, welcomes children aged 6 months – 4 years, offering a safe and vibrant home from home environment. The nursery fosters a spirit in which kindness and engagement are at the heart of our culture, enabling every individual to thrive.

At Taunton Nursery we summarise this with the motto ‘Be kind. Be keen.’ We work in partnership with families to help our children to grow and build the foundations for successful lifelong learning. Our expert Early Years practitioners tailor every child’s experience to suit not only their age but also their stage of development, ensuring excellent progress and a personalised approach to learning.

The Nursery School Curriculum

At the heart of all that we do at Taunton School Nursery is the firm understanding that we are providing the foundations for each child to start the beginning of their academic journey through school.

Children flourish, dream and achieve only when they feel safe, respected, encouraged and cared for. Our culture nurtures each child individually as soon as they enter the Nursery, and the stimulating environment provides the perfect setting for children to begin the first stages of their learning journey.

Underpinning everything we do with the children is our firm commitment to the children’s safety and wellbeing. We work closely with families to ensure that we as professionals understand each individual, enabling us to build strong and meaningful bonds with the children. We hope, that by giving the children these firm foundations and strong roots, they will go on to progress and take any opportunities they are given, and ultimately fly in whatever they are passionate about.

Activities at Taunton Nursery School

Our beautiful setting is ideal for welly walks and the exploration and discovery of our extensive grounds. And when it’s time to explore further afield, our buses transport us to local attractions to enjoy seasonal walks and picnics.

Activities & Trips

Adventures and trips play a big part in the learning process at Taunton School. That’s because we believe experiencing the outside world and all it has to offer is just as important and instrumental to your child’s development as our Nursery-based activities.

Whether it’s a trip to Hestercombe Gardens or Fyne Court to discover the local wildlife, or a visit to Bicton Park, Pecorama and the seaside or a steam train journey to Minehead, our adventures open up an exciting world of possibilities for your child to enjoy.

Dance

Combining three of the Early Learning Goals – Communication and Language, Personal Development and Physical Development – dance is a fun way for your child to express themselves whilst developing new skills.

Our dance lessons not only build self-confidence, self-esteem, and performance skills, but also encourage children to use their imagination. From listening to music, following instructions, practising, interacting, and dancing with other children, to developing spatial awareness, motor, and social skills.

Forest School

With the Forest School just on our doorstep, enjoying a welly walk, splashing in puddles or seeking out the local wildlife is all part of Nursery life.

This exciting natural environment allows your child to safely explore and enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer, from creating bug hotels, making traps, and foraging for insects and blackberries to making musical instruments, sitting around the fire pit and singing songs. There’s never a dull moment at the Forest School!

Music & Drama

Our weekly music lessons are a fun way for children to explore and develop a love of music from around the world.

Taught by our Director of Music, and Music Teachers, the lessons aim to develop key skills as well as, later in nursery, preparing children for participation in musical and performing arts activities including: the Christmas Nativity and Celebration Day performance. This provides a wonderful opportunity for you and your family to see your child’s performance and musical achievements, whilst experiencing some amazing Taunton School productions.

A New Baby Room

Taunton School’s Nursery and Pre-Preparatory School has seen exciting new developments take place, as part of the wider campus development masterplan.

Works include a revamped playground, a brand new woodland themed library and a second baby room. All the new facilities are available from September 2024.

Becky Lewis, Head of Taunton Pre-Preparatory School and Nursery, said: “We are so excited about all the developments happening. Our Pre-prep School Council have done a wonderful job of helping to design the new library and choosing playground equipment as voted for by their peers.

“The expansion of the pre-prep and nursery begins an exciting new chapter here at Taunton School, enabling us to give more children the very best start in a beautiful, nurturing environment.”
