The Pre-Prep Day

Morning

Our Early Drop Off Club welcomes the early arrival of children from 7:30am, before joining their friend in class to start the core school day at 8:00am.

Those children not joining us for Early Drop Off Club will arrive between 7.30-8.00am, ready to kick-start the day at 8.20-8.30am with our whole school ‘Wake Up Shake Up’ on the playground on Wednesdays, or a fun learning activity on other days of the week. After this, the children move into their classrooms for their targeted, small group phonics session. These structured phonics sessions are assessed on a half-termly basis to ensure that the children are placed in the best group for their current stage.

Following this small group work, the children transition into their class lesson time, ranging from Modern Foreign Languages, Science, Literacy, Mathematics, Music, Swimming or Sport. Before resuming additional curriculum time, the children enjoy a healthy snack and playtime at 10:15am.

Mid-Morning

Pre-Prep children walk through the school grounds to access our new state-of-the-art Dining Hall, where the professional team of catering staff, employed throughout the school, deliver our food service.

After a home-cooked, nutritious, two-course lunch, the children return to the Pre-Prep to either play in the playground, use the bikes, explore our wooded Forest School area or attend a lunchtime club or one-to-one reading session.

Afternoon & Afterschool

The afternoon commences with further curriculum time, a fruit snack and a much-loved story. Children start to go home at the end of the core school day at 3:30pm, or they may move into our after-school provision. From 3:45pm, we host a range of enjoyable clubs, or children may join us for our care provision, before we close at 5:45pm.

After school, the children take a book to share at home with you each evening. Children also bring home high frequency words and spellings to practice on a weekly basis.

Lunchtime & Snacks

The fun activities and learning experiences in Pre-Prep build a healthy appetite, which is why our children enjoy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, plus a substantial lunch to keep their energy levels topped up throughout the day.

We take our responsibility in this area very seriously and many of the snacks available are fruit and vegetable based. We offer only milk or water and encourage all children to take regular drinks throughout the day. Our highly qualified and experienced catering staff prepare a balanced diet for lunch each week and our menu is available on the notice board. We eat with your child every day and use these opportunities to promote good table manners and the correct use of their cutlery.

Taunton School recognises, understands, and caters for special diets and food allergies for individual children. All meals are freshly prepared and cooked in-house and we keep an allergen register, which is updated regularly.
