Prioritising wellbeing & pastoral care

We prioritise excellent pastoral care as a collective effort between staff, students, and parents, fostering open communication and empathy.

Pupils are encouraged to express themselves with humility, engagement and kindness, all the while benefitting from the nurturing care provided through individualised support.

Developing a mindset for life

We have high expectations of our pupils in terms of behaviour, equipping them with the tools to develop a mindset for life as confident, global citizens with self-discipline and a growing sense of responsibility towards themselves and others. They are able to converse with their peers and others with interest, good manners and confidence.

All pupils are placed into one of our four Houses for the whole of their time in the Prep School and a vibrant programme of competitions and fun activities creates a sense of belonging, pride and good-natured rivalry.

In Year 9, our students transition to Senior School, prepared for new challenges. Year 8 marks a pivotal stage where students assume leadership roles, contributing to our vibrant community through initiatives like Sports, Digital, Chapel, and Junior Leaders, fostering collaboration and maturity.

Comprehensive Wellbeing Support at Taunton Prep School

In addition to our student Playground Ambassadors, Leaders, and Champions, Mrs Day collaborates closely with tutors and pastoral heads of year to help support all the children. We also have access to health centre staff including mental health nurses, counsellors and Merlin and Ralph, our school therapy dogs.

Pastoral Care Structure

The form teacher plays a central role in our pastoral system, providing daily guidance and support to their classes, overseeing both academic and pastoral aspects.

Four Pastoral Heads of Year offer additional care, support, and discipline, overseen by the Deputy Head Pastoral, Senior Headmaster, and ultimately, the Head. Fostering a sense of belonging and respect helps children thrive and be themselves.

A School for Pupils of All Faiths and None

Spirituality and understanding major world religions are integral to our students’ personal growth. While rooted in Christian principles, our open community embraces children of all faiths and backgrounds. Our vibrant Chapel, led by the Chaplain, fosters worship and peace.

Partnerships with Parents

Effective education depends upon the strength of the triangle that exists between the pupil, the parents and the school. When all three points of that triangle are pulling in the same direction, there is no limit to what can be achieved. Our philosophy is simple – we succeed together.

Our parents can always arrange face to face contact with any member of staff. Telephone conversations can always be arranged, or parents may choose to communicate via email.

What Our
Parents Say

The school has been wonderful at making her feel at home…we couldn’t have asked for a more proactive and caring environment.
