The Shape of the Prep Day
A day in the life of Taunton prep school
- 18:20am
Registration 8.20am marks the beginning of the school day with an initial touch base with Form tutors and then community time. This is an opportunity for us to come together as a whole, share key messages and celebrate pupils’ success. These activities involve assemblies, chapel, extended tutor time and a dedicated whole school reading session. Our chapel is led by our own reverend Getman who tailors the service to various current topics such as world events, and religious milestones throughout the year.
- 211am
Our lessons are 1 hour in length and the morning session is broken by a break at 11am for 25 minutes. This is an opportunity for the pupils have a snack and let off some steam on the playground, MUGA pitch and in the warmer months, our school field before heading back to lessons.
- 312:30pm
Lunchtime is an hour long and starts at 12.30pm. During this time, pupils take lunch in our modern purpose-built dining room, they have time outside with their friends and there are also a variety of co-curricular activities that take place which are optional.
- 41:45pm
The afternoon begins with lessons which run through the afternoon to 3.50pm and a final touch base with their tutor.
- 54pm
Pupils can enjoy a quick snack and playtime break from 4:00pm – 4:15pm, then after school activities begin at 4:15pm-5:15pm. Prep is from 4:30pm–5:15pm and pupils may stay for an extended prep session from 5:15pm–5:45pm. Buses depart at 5:30pm marking the end of the day.
Pupils can either leave school at 4.00pm or stay for prep and activities, leaving at either 5:15pm or 5:45pm.
Saturday School for Year 7 & 8
Saturday school follows the same morning structure as the weekdays up until lunchtime. However, the community slot is filled with an Enrichment session where pupils take part in a variety of activities which may involve listening to a guest speaker, delivering a presentation to a group, or partaking in a debate. The school day ends at 12.35pm. Occasionally pupils in Years 7 & 8 may have an afternoon sports fixture against another school and parents are encouraged to come along and support the teams.
Saturday Enrichment for Years 3 – 6
Our pupils in Years 3–6 have the option to attend our enjoyable, activity-based Saturday Enrichment mornings (9am – 12noon). Pupils sign up for a term at no cost and commit to their chosen activity. The variety of activities to choose from gives our pupils the opportunity to really engage in a project, sport or performance. Activities that have recently taken place include Cookery, Biathle, Performing Arts, Design Technology, Art, Cricket, Hockey.
