Senior academic pathways

At Taunton School we believe in finding the best academic pathway for each and every child. Whilst elements of our GCSE curriculum are compulsory for all, breadth and optionality are also available, with students choosing from three distinct routes. The vast majority of our students will study nine GCSEs, allowing them to concentrate on the quality of the grades they achieve as opposed to the quantity of subjects they study.

We are one of the few schools in the country to offer four separate Sixth Form academic routes; A-Level, International Baccalaureate, BTEC and the International Foundation Year. Parents can expect the same flexibility and balance in our approach to the Sixth Form curriculum as we demonstrate at GCSE.

What our
Parents Say

The school has been wonderful at making her feel at home…we couldn’t have asked for a more proactive and caring environment.

Senior Parent

Pastoral and wellbeing in the senior school

We are very proud of our pastoral care, our sense of community, and our inclusive ethos.

Taunton is a place in which many communities come together to create one greater collective. Our school is built on inclusivity, where everybody belongs – whatever your story, whatever your background. We offer wrap around care for your child in a supportive environment where every student has the freedom to be themselves and is encouraged to explore their passions.

Senior co-curricular activities

Through our extensive co-curricular programme our students explore opportunities in sport, the arts and a choice of activities which develop key life skills and characteristics such as leadership, teamwork and reflection.

We have a high expectation of our students outside of the classroom, whereby they are encouraged to participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities. With over 150 co-curricular activities we are encouraging excellence whilst promoting participation.

Senior boarding school Southwest

At Taunton School, we offer full, flexi, and weekly boarding. Providing a very homely atmosphere, boarders flourish in our caring and nurturing environment, whilst making long term friendships and experiencing a life-changing education.

A school for military families

Military families have been part of Taunton School for many years and contribute greatly to our broad and diverse community. Children from military backgrounds are familiar with the upheaval of military life and have often attended several schools before joining us. They enjoy the stability, consistency and undisrupted education that Taunton School can offer. We believe that every child should benefit from an exceptional education, which is why we offer significant financial support for military families in receipt of CEA.
