Taunton School's Sixth Form Experience

Welcome to Taunton School’s Sixth Form, where we believe in tailoring academic pathways to each student’s unique abilities and ambitions. As one of the few schools in the country offering three distinct curricula – A-Levels, the IB Diploma, and BTEC qualifications, we ensure that every student finds the most suitable route for their journey.

Our Sixth Form fosters mutual respect between staff and students, boasting an exceptional breadth of academic offerings alongside a dedicated Sixth Form Centre and social space. International Baccalaureate

A broad curriculum which allows students to maintain a range of academic interests whilst developing their global outlook.

Discover the Carrington Library

The new Carrington Library (opened in September 2022) provides a quiet working atmosphere for private study and leisure reading for all Sixth Form students. Holding approximately 14,000 volumes and 7,500 catalogued journal articles.

The library is committed to providing materials to support students across the curriculum in all subjects, expand their horizons and give access to the best literature, from classics to graphic novels. A special collection boasting the title “The Wow Factor” encourages academically ambitious pupils to read themselves interesting by exploring World and English literature as well as works of popular science and humanities subjects. Staff are always delighted to help pupils to find appropriate information for prep or to discuss leisure reading interests. We warmly encourage pupils to request books and talk to us about their favourite authors and topics.

Sixth Form Life

Sixth Form life is a fun blend of academic studies, co-curricular activities and plenty of socialising all aimed at developing well rounded, inquisitive, and knowledgeable young adults who can achieve anything they put their minds to.

Private Sixth Form Boarding

Taunton School offers an outstanding boarding provision for our Senior and Sixth Form students. We create a ‘family feel’ within our boarding houses, to create lifelong friendships and a sense of belonging within our diverse community.

With regular activities, inter-house competitions, trips, and socials, we pride ourselves on creating an unforgettable boarding experience, where memories are made.

Sixth Form Results

We are very proud of how we provide a curriculum that can be personalised for each of our students and of how we add value academically to our students across the A-Level, BTEC and IB qualifications they choose. Every year we have students who achieve a string of A*s at A-Level, or 40+ points in the IB Diploma, or distinctions in their BTECs, and who progress to top universities in the UK and abroad; but we are equally proud of those who achieve lower grades that represent the very best outcomes for them and then move on to realise their aspirations, whatever they may be.

This is the best way for prospective families to experience Taunton School with the opportunity to meet members of staff, our current Sixth Form students, tour the state-of-the-art facilities and ask questions. Join our in-person open mornings or attend virtually. We run dedicated Sixth Form Open Evenings in the Autumn Term each year as well.
