BTECs offer an applied course of study integrated with real world experience and allow our students to mix and match with A-Levels to develop the correct curriculum for them.
The Business BTEC, which is equivalent to two A-Levels, exposes students to a wide range of exciting opportunities, including our annual student-led corporate event, and work experience in the wider Taunton area.
Business BTEC students typically balance their curriculum with an A-Level such as Psychology, Mathematics, DT or Photography encouraging competitive applications for both apprenticeships and business or management related degree courses.
Different modules are studied and then assessed at regular intervals throughout the course.
The BTEC Business course aims to give students:
The Sports and Exercise Science BTEC provides a full course of study for those students who have aspiration to work in the sports industry, which is one of the top contributors to the UK economy. This course enables students not only to develop as athletes but also achieve a thorough understanding of the social and economic impacts of the sports industry. Students studying this course prepare themselves to progress onto sports study at top sporting universities, such as Loughborough, Exeter and Bath, as well as engaging in a wide range of sports coaching opportunities post Sixth Form.
Our Sports and Exercise Science BTEC is equivalent to three A-Levels, allows students to study sport across the board and focus on their preferred pathway, whilst opening up a huge range of opportunities in the sports industry. Three Distinction* grades at BTEC are equivalent to three A*s at A-Level and attract the same UCAS points. We also offer the opportunity to complete an A-Level alongside either the Extended Diploma or Diploma programmes.
Students cover several different sections within the course and are continually assessed, using a range of methods. The course includes core scientific modules like Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology within sports, combined with more practical modules like Sports Injuries, Fitness Testing, Fitness Training and Sports Coaching.
For the Sports and Exercise Science BTEC students don’t need to excel at any particular sport, but they must have an interest that can be developed further.
The BTEC qualification we offer is a QCF level 3 qualification designed to provide highly specialist, work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. Students are given the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for a variety of different potential pathways.
Our ICT BTEC is the equivalent of one A-Level, designed for students who are interested in applications of ICT, for example social media and business development. This course enables pupils to broaden their study with two further A-Levels and equips them with the skills to progress to a wide range of apprenticeships or university courses.
