Overseeing careers and university advice for the whole school throughout the year, our Careers Department really comes into its own for Senior pupils, whether it’s providing guidance and advice for higher education or the many career paths available.

We want our pupils to feel confident in their future choices which is why, along with advice, we offer practical resources too, from college fairs, university visits and open days, to careers events and utilising links with local and national employers.

As well as advising pupils on clearing, adjustment and gap years, we also arrange university visits and open days in the UK. For international pupils wishing to return home to study or UK-based pupils keen to study in Europe, we have extensive experience in supporting students applying to universities in Italy, Switzerland, Germany and The Netherlands.

And as one of only 26 SATs centres in the UK (SATs are the standardised college entrance exams used when applying to American colleges or universities) our US universities support ensures pupils who wish to pursue degree-level studies in America are fully supported. In fact, over the last few years our pupils have received offers from a range of top US universities, including Harvard College, UCLA, NYU and the University of Chicago.

For pupils not wishing to study traditional degree programmes, our links with providers of professional training prove to be invaluable. Opportunities include training with Glion and Les Roches Schools of Hospitality, The Edge Hotel School, The College of Estate Management, Norland College for Nannies and NABA, Milan.

Approximately 94% of all our Sixth Formers go on to university or college in either the UK or overseas, which is true testament to the exceptional support and advice on offer from our Careers Department.

Our careers events both during lunchtimes and after school feature a variety of different speakers and give pupils an insight into further education and careers. Speakers in the past have included a local GP and representatives from two firms of Taunton accountants, the Oxford Media and Business School, Chiltern College of Childcare, The College of Estate Management as well as representatives from American, Canadian, Dutch and UK universities.

Of course not all pupils choose to pursue further education, preferring to move into employment instead. These pupils find our University of Life sessions incredibly useful for preparation with interviews, CVs and letters of application, as well as guidance on professional conduct, plus our Careers Department is always available to offer advice and guidance.
