Taunton School has a long tradition of producing some excellent athletes over a number of years and participates in a number of high profile events throughout Athletics season. It is one of the most well attended summer sports with over 100 athletes representing the school each year.
The Spring term focuses on an indoor winter programme with specific fitness and strength and conditioning sessions, as well as some technical preparation work.
The boys and girls programme is structured the same in the Summer term and pupils train for an hour and a half twice a week.
- Tuesdays are based on specific fitness, skill and technical sessions within the events. Pupils are encouraged to participate in a number of different activities within this session.
- Thursdays are more focused on competition practice and replication, therefore much more event specific.
- Specific Programmes created for each athlete based on ability and event specialism.
- Access to the Performance Programme sessions.
The school competes in a regular competition circuit every Saturday in the Summer term within Somerset. We regularly enter more than 40 athletes into the National School’s Championship events at District Level and regularly have athletes qualifying to both County, Regional and National Championships.
We are supporters of Taunton Athletics Club based locally at the Castle Track. We have a number of athletes that have performed at elite or national level.
