Taunton School Student Looking at Camera

Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

Students studying A Levels have the opportunity to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which allows them to investigate an area of interest in more depth. They will be required to write a 5,000 word essay and give a presentation on completion. The IB Diploma already has a similar essay element to it.

EPQs help to develop independent thinking and learning skills which are particularly beneficial for studying at university and future careers. Students will learn to plan, organise, research, strategise, analyse data, make decisions, resolve problems, evaluate information and develop their presentations skills.

The EPQ carries UCAS points and is useful for demonstrating a particular interest or passion in a chosen subject to be pursued as a vocational degree. It can also add weight to personal statements and university interviews.
