Physics

Not only do our pupils benefit from the experience and expertise of our five highly qualified full time teachers, but also exceptional facilities that include fully renovated laboratories and a computer suite utilising the latest technology.

The AQA GCSE in Physics is the course that this department follows. Biology and Chemistry also follow this course and therefore some candidates will do three separate science GCSEs and others will undertake Combined Science.

In Year 9, pupils develop the necessary skills required for the new AQA courses in preparation for the AQA Level 1/2 Certificate for Physics (iGCSE) in Years 10-11.

The Physics course is examined in two terminal papers lasting 1.75 hours each and there is no coursework element to this course. However, the exams do test the student’s knowledge of scientific practical techniques.

The course consists of the following topics:

  • Energy
  • Electricity
  • Particle model of Matter
  • Atomic Structure
  • Forces
  • Waves
  • Magnetism and Electromagnetism
  • Space Physics

Both the Combined Science course and the separate GCSE in Physics will prepare students well if they wish to advance to Physics in the sixth form.

In the Sixth From, pupils thrive in small classes of up to 12 as they fully immerse themselves in the AQA Physics A Level specification or IB Physics.
