How to apply
The main ages of admission to the Senior School are 13 (Year 9) and 16 (Year 12/Lower Sixth), but entry into other year groups is also possible. No entrance examination is required and selection is based on an interview (where possible), report and reference. Admission may also be gained via Common Entrance examination (by pupils entering Year 9 from a Preparatory School) or by scholarship entry. Students joining the Sixth Form will be expected to attain a minimum of five GCSE passes at grade A*-C, or equivalent, and for those not taking recognised exams, applicants will be asked to sit assessment tests.
Here’s our easy step by step guide to the Senior School admissions process.
Please do call or email to express your interest and provide your child’s name, date of birth and current school. Alternatively, please click here to send an enquiry via the website. In response to your initial enquiry, a prospectus will be sent to you. This will contain information on academic programmes offered, school activities, policies and procedures, fees, scholarships and general information
To learn more about Taunton School, you are welcome to visit, to have a look round the School and to meet the Headmaster. You may also like to arrange for your child to spend a taster day with us.
At any stage, if you wish to register your interest in your child joining the School, you will be invited to complete a registration form and return it to us with the registration fee.
A letter acknowledging your registration will be sent, asking your permission to allow us to contact your child’s Headteacher to request a copy of your child’s most recent school reports and a school reference. Alternatively, you may wish to acquire this information and forward it to us.
Pupils in education outside the UK may be asked to sit assessment tests.
Once the above steps are complete, we will be in a position to offer a place. The Headmaster will send you an offer letter, with an acceptance form and a copy of our standard terms and conditions.
Completion and return of the acceptance form, together with the acceptance deposit (which is returned to you when your child leaves the School), will secure the place and form the contract with the School. Confirmation will be sent, together with early joining information. Further joining information is sent out in mid-July for pupils starting in September.
Every student with a parent who lives overseas must have an adult guardian in the UK who is responsible for them during their studies at Taunton School. For more information, click here.
