Jo was born in Wiltshire and educated in Hertfordshire just North of London. Her first degree was from Loughborough College of Art and Jo then worked as a textile designer within the automotive industry.

After this Jo moved to Birmingham and studied for a Masters degree, focusing on textiles and furniture design. Coming from a family of teachers may have influenced Jo’s decision to become a teacher herself, so she stayed in Birmingham to take a PGCE and then joined a school there and was promoted to be Head of Art. However, Jo had always wanted to live in the West Country so she moved to Taunton where she has lived since 1999. Jo taught in a secondary school in Taunton before taking up a post at St Dunstan’s School in Glastonbury where she ran the Art Department for 15 years before joining TSIMS. Jo also continues to produce her own artwork, exploring digital as well as traditional methods by printing photographs onto textiles with hand stitching and text to portray and preserve moments in family histories.

In addition to the wide variety of rural and inner city schools where Jo has worked, she has also done private tutoring in GCSE Art and Design. The opportunity to share her lifelong passion for Art and Design with young people has been hugely rewarding. Jo is delighted to be working at the International Middle School with a team of dedicated staff and enthusiastic students in such a beautiful setting.
