Rowan was born in London and grew up in the South-East of England. After graduating from the University of Sheffield in 1999 and gaining a Master’s degree at the University of Sussex in 2003 he spent a few years working for Children’s Services in Cornwall. Rowan then relocated to the West Midlands in 2007 and gained his teaching qualification in Secondary Mathematics at Birmingham City University.

Rowan took up his first teaching appointment teaching GCSE and A Level Mathematics at Prince Henry’s High School in Evesham. In addition to teaching Maths, Rowan worked in Pastoral teams and in the Special Educational Needs Department before being promoted to Deputy Head of Mathematics in charge of A level at Swanshurst School in Birmingham.

The pull of the South-West proved too much, however, and Rowan was thrilled to be given the opportunity to move back to the region and to take up his position at Taunton School International. Outside school he enjoys running, hill walking and scuba diving.
