Taunton School is a leading independent school in the South West. We cater in-house for all student meals as well as providing a professional service to the community involving weddings, parties, conferences and corporate events.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy, friendly and welcoming kitchen team as a Chef. You will be part of a professional and experienced kitchen team, working with fresh ingredients to support the preparation of meals for our day and boarding community. As Chef you will prepare meals following recipe specification on quantity, portion and quality in a timely manner taking guidance and instruction from the Head and Senior Chef on meal preparation, mise-en-place organisation, production and service. You will also assist with daily checks on food deliveries, storage and temperature, probing promptly and thoroughly and will be responsible for ensuring your work is carried out in a safe and hygienic manner at all times.

The ideal candidate will show a passion for cooking with fresh locally sourced produce and working with a professional team of chefs to support and lead the junior members of the team. You will be organised, self-motivated and able to work well under pressure. You will have a minimum of Level 1 and 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering and have a good standard of literacy and numeracy; a City and Guilds 706/1, 706/2 or NVQ equivalent would be desirable.

The post requires an ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and therefore previous experience of working in a volume outlet would be an advantage as would the ability to work unsupervised and using your own initiative.

Hours of Work:
40 hours a week over an average of 5 days out of 7, on a rota basis.
