Working at Taunton School

Taunton School is set in a beautiful 56-acre site in arguably one of the most attractive counties in England.

With a fine range of high quality 19th century Gothic style buildings complemented by 20th century additions, the beautiful buildings comprise vibrant modern classrooms and specialist Arts, Music and Drama spaces. The grounds are well cared for and provide a space for students and staff alike to utilise and enjoy.

Our International Middle School is based at ‘The Grange’ in the nearby village of Kingston St Mary and is a significant historical building with stunning architectural and horticultural features. It really is a home away from home.

Our School ethos is one of a shared responsibility and positive contribution from all to the life and work of this busy community.

Taunton School Main Building

Beyond the education of children, we have some key ambitions outlined below:

To be environmentally conscious

We want to be the greenest school in Somerset and have already committed to a ‘zero to landfill’ project, so that all waste collected from school is recycled. Taunton School was recently awarded The Green Award for Environmental Achievement at the Independent School of the Year Awards.

Corporate social responsibility

We want to work positively and in a socially accountable way, and through the work of our Foundation we engage a global community of Old Tauntonians, parents and friends to support our philanthropic aims.

Staff networks and forums

We want our staff to connect and learn, and to this end provide opportunities for colleagues to meet, support and inspire each other through our staff networks, which are run by staff, for staff.

All of this, and more, is what makes Taunton School such a thriving, energetic and well-rounded Independent School.

Taunton and Somerset Area

Taunton is in the heart of Somerset in the South West of England and is the area’s county town and commercial centre. Taunton offers an enviable lifestyle, where culture, art and community are surrounded by natural landscapes and open, public spaces. The region enjoys good weather, areas of outstanding natural beauty and a wonderful coastline.

Taunton Town

Taunton is quintessentially British with a beautiful town centre park, a traditional food and craft market and is also home to the highly successful Somerset County Cricket Club. It is close to Stonehenge, one of the Wonders of the World and the best-known prehistoric monument in Europe. A short drive away is the historic city of Bath which is a designated world heritage site with its grand Georgian architecture and one of the world’s best-preserved Roman baths.

Taunton School is walking distance from the town centre which has excellent amenities and is the perfect place to do some shopping, meet for coffee or visit the theatre or cinema.
