ADVENTURES & TRIPS
There is no better way to feed the inquisitive minds of our Pre-Prep children than by taking them on an adventure of discovery.
Our adventures and trips are designed to give Pre-Prep girls and boys a better understanding of the world around them by exploring their immediate environment, such as our Forest School, and the possibilities beyond. And with the added thrill of travelling in our school bus, every trip is an exciting adventure.
For Reception children, our wide and varied programme includes visiting Hestercombe Gardens, Fyne Court, Bicton Park, Pecorama, Cricket St Thomas, Paignton Zoo, the seaside, recycling waste centres and even enjoying a steam train journey to Minehead.
Year 1 children enjoy trips to the Otter Sanctuary, Bygonnes (History), Digger Land (Science), the Butterfly Farm, and a drama theatre trip to Bristol Hippodrome.
Year 2 children enjoy trips to the theatre, castles and keeps, Explore @Bristol (Science), join in the Remembrance Parade in Taunton (History), and visit Lyme Regis to learn about coastal erosion and land formations (Geography).
CLUBS & HOBBIES
CLUBS & HOBBIES
Our clubs run after school from 3.45pm until 4.30pm and are run by Pre-Prep teachers and specialist teaching staff. And the good news is most of the clubs are included in your fees.
Hobbies include Swimming, Aikido, Tennis, Construction, Jazz Dance, Relax and Stretch, Athletics, Mandarin, Country Dancing, Wake Up Shake Up, Play with Clay, Stories & Rhymes, Ukulele Club, Recorder Club, Multi-Sports, Origami, Super Science, Football, Street Dance and Forest Fun throughout the year.
Our Activity Club runs from 3.45pm to 5.45pm and supervision is organised by the After School Care Team and our own teachers. There is a wide range of clubs to choose from, including Mandarin, Contemporary Dance, Swimming, and Construction Club.
And for those children who would just prefer to relax doing the kind of activities they do at home, such as lie on cushions, watch TV, play with Lego, arts and crafts or play outside on bikes, they’re free to do that too.
MUSIC, DRAMA & DANCE
MUSIC, DRAMA & DANCE
Benefitting from our great music and drama facilities, including our specialist Music Suite, Pre-Prep boys and girls enjoy a weekly 40-minute Music and Drama lesson taught by our Director of Music, and our specialist Music teachers.
During these fun lessons they discover the wonderful world of music and learn about rhythm, pitch and timbre. They also cover classical studies, percussion and composition, plus build an appreciation of music from around the world.
And to develop their vocal abilities, all Pre-Prep children enjoy a weekly 40-minute singing lesson where they sing fun action songs, learn hymns, classical pieces of music and fun voice exercises.
In addition, keen musicians can take advantage of individual music tuition to learn how to play a musical instrument and budding performers can enjoy weekly Speech and Drama Lessons. Dancers can take weekly Classical Ballet lessons (Royal School of Ballet) from the age of four upwards (incurs a small fee). We also offer other dance opportunities that do not incur an additional charge with our specialist Dance Teacher.
There are plenty of opportunities throughout the year for our Pre-Prep children to perform and showcase their achievements, from participating in Class and Whole School Assemblies, to School Musical Productions including the Christmas Musical, Drama Productions, and Informal Concerts.
SPORT
SPORT
Our fun PE and Games lessons take place weekly in either the Prep School’s purpose-built and designed gymnasium or on our extensive games fields and pitches. Their aim is to introduce your child to a variety of sports whilst developing different skills.
The Autumn Term sees our Pre-Prep boys and girls focusing on Gym and Dance, Tag Rugby, Football and developing early Netball skills.
In the Spring Term, they get to grips with Gymnastics and developing large apparatus skills, as well as having a go at Uni Hoc and Rounders.
And when the Summer Term arrives, it’s time for Athletics, developing small apparatus skills, Team Games, Early Tennis and Kwik Kricket, plus school Sports Day and Celebration Day.
As part of the PE and Games programme, Pre-Prep children also benefit from weekly 40 minute swimming lessons all year round in our wonderful indoor heated swimming pool.
