School Sport Magazine has released its annual list of the most successful sporting schools in the country with Taunton School making the top ten.

For the first time ever, the magazine has combined its separate lists of independent and state schools into one league table of the top 200 schools.

The magazine used the results from 100 events across 18 different sports to compile its final list. These events involved students from both the Prep and Senior Schools.

In a year when school sport was disrupted by the pandemic and many national finals cancelled, schools were still recognised for reaching the latter stages of a competition.

Taunton School’s high ranking reflects the breadth of sports it offers, the high level of participation amongst students and its success at national competitions.

Hayley Mortimer, Director of Sport at Taunton School, says: “It’s fair to say that sport at Taunton School very much encompasses the idea of encouraging excellence and promoting participation as School Sport Magazine promotes. In our physical education programme, we offer a broad and diverse range of sports and activities that enable students to explore different opportunities. Our highly experienced team of coaches, including many who have played their sport at national level, mean we are able to support students to excel where they show talent and passion.

Hayley added: “This recognition is a culmination of hard work and commitment from the whole Taunton School community and the investment we have made in our facilities and resources within our sports programme. We are absolutely committed to providing the very best experience for our students.”
