During this summer term, Taunton School International has been home to five ‘prep’ course students, studying a range of subjects and engaging with a range of extra-curricular activities.

Taunton School International’s September 2021 Preparation Course has one very specific goal; to prepare the international students who embark on this study for their onward journey into Sixth Form study at some of the UK’s top independent schools.

Being very aware of the challenges screen-based learning has posed to students, this course gives new students the opportunity to learn in the same room as their teachers and peers, a rare experience after the period of remote learning. With 25 hours of tuition a week, spread amongst English, Humanities, Science, Maths, PSHE, Study Skills and Subject-Specific Language Skills, the academic portion of the course ensures that our students are ‘topped-up’ to the level they need to be at to thrive at whatever school they choose to take their next steps at.

“All of our students are extremely keen, being very proactive in their own education and working hard in all aspects of the course”, says Mrs Griffiths, one of the Taunton School International teachers playing a key role on the preparation course. “I’ve been very impressed with their effort and engagement over the past half-term.”

Alongside their academic studies, the Prep students have been fully integrated into Taunton Schools’ extracurricular provision, with students accessing after-school clubs from Basketball to Costume Design and taking part in music lessons. They have had access to the full range of facilities the school has to offer and have taken full advantage of experiencing all that the local town has to offer.

They have been fully supported by Pastoral Staff who have given the students every opportunity to take part in a range of weekend activities, from Pool, Table Tennis and Badminton to Netball and a Mental Health Awareness Week picnic.

Coming at a time where Taunton School International puts on a range of exciting events, the Prep students will also take part in the Talent Show, Sports Day, Summer Ball and more exciting summer-term events. Although COVID-19 restrictions have continued to challenge the education sector, the Prep students also had full access to the school’s range of weekend trips, with Surfing, Go Karting, High Ropes, Mountain Boarding and Photography trips.
