Taunton School celebrates World Book Day

Posted: 3rd March 2022

The Queen of Hearts, Harry Potter, Willy Wonka and Fantastic Mr. Fox were spotted around campus today to mark our celebration of World Book Day. We also caught a glimpse of Alice in Wonderland, The Hungry Caterpillar, The BFG and Mary Poppins.

Exciting events and activities ran throughout the day, whilst pupils absorbed themselves in creativity and their love for books.

Reception made some imaginative collages of their characters and had a story read to them. Year 1 wrote about their characters, took part in a quiz and enjoyed designing their own bookmarks. In the afternoon, the playground was filled with claps, smiles and waves as pupils paraded around in their costumes.

‘You are a reader’ is the message for 2022, helping promote reading for pleasure. The Prep-School celebrated their love for reading as they filled the library at break-time with books. Activities included a ‘book swap’, a treasure book hunt adventure and creating wooden peg dolls of their favorite characters. Roald Dahl was a popular author amongst pupils and The Diary of the Wimpy Kid’ and ‘Scarlet and Ivy’ were named as some favorite book series.

In the Senior School, Students brought in their own books and wrote some book reviews. Students and staff were also invited to submit a 100 word book review about their favorite novel or short story.

Taunton School’s International Middle Students marked World Book Day by promoting the new books in its growing library. Their theme was celebrating diversity and raising the voices of international authors from around the world, showing just how much reading is at the heart of TSI.

‘Reading is fun, relevant, accessible, exciting, and has the power to transform lives’. WORLD BOOK DAY FOUNDER, BARONESS GAIL REBUCK
